Sorath Lohar

Convenor, Voice of Missing Persons of Sindh
Sorath Lohar is a prominent Sindhi human rights activist and one of the strongest voices campaigning against enforced disappearances in Pakistan, particularly in Sindh. Her activism emerged from personal tragedy after the alleged enforced disappearance of her father, Hidayatullah Lohar, in April 2017.

Following her father’s disappearance, Sorath Lohar transformed her personal grief into a determined struggle for justice. She became actively involved in raising awareness about the plight of missing persons and the suffering of their families. Over the years, she has participated in and organized protests, sit-ins, demonstrations, and awareness campaigns outside press clubs, government institutions, and human rights forums. She has also consistently engaged with media outlets and civil society organizations to highlight alleged human rights violations and enforced disappearances in Sindh.

Alongside her sisters, she helped strengthen and expand the work of the organization Voice for Missing Persons of Sindh (VMP-Sindh), which advocates for the safe recovery of missing persons, legal accountability, and justice for affected families.

Even after the return of her father in 2019, Sorath Lohar continued her activism for other victims of enforced disappearances. In 2024, after her father was reportedly killed by unidentified attackers in Sindh, she once again led protests and public demonstrations demanding justice, transparency, and an impartial investigation into the killing.

Her struggle has become part of the broader human rights movement led by Sindhi and Baloch families seeking truth, justice, and accountability regarding enforced disappearances in Pakistan. Through courage, resilience, and public advocacy, Sorath Lohar has become a recognized symbol of resistance and human rights activism in Sindh.

Academically, she holds a Master’s degree (MSCS) in Computer Science from the University of Sindh and also possesses an LL. B degree in law, reflecting her commitment to both education and human rights advocacy.
